Mobile Apps for LGV Drivers

We all know that the life of an LGV driver is not as simple as it may seem. It requires a lot of planning and organisation. To help make the day to day routine of our LGV drivers a little easier, we have sourced the internet and compiled a list of the best mobile apps which can be downloaded on a smartphone, designed especially for transporters. Details correct as of 11th June 2020.

Trucker Timer

This is an excellent app created to help LGV drivers in the UK keep track of their driving hours and avoid fatigue violations. Drivers can maximize their driving hours, earn more and stay clear of fines by availing the advanced tachograph and driving log features of the app. This app is available for free on Apple Store and Android phones.

Waze Social GPS, Maps & Traffic

This app works like a cross between a navigation app and a social media channel. Drivers can update the local driving community network with the latest updates on traffic and incidents, giving a real-time view on the condition of the roads. This allows drivers to plan their routes effectively, saving time and fuel. Millions of drivers use the mapping, navigation and traffic information on Waze to save fuel, time, and avoid traffic congestion. Drivers can also report hazards and incidents on the road and receive road alerts. This app is free on Apple Store and Android. Voice Text Pro Drivers can use this app to speak into their phones and get the voice message converted into text. It’s an excellent app to ensure road safety and is available on Apple Store for free.

HGV Parking

This app gives HGV drivers access to over 800 parking bays which are exclusive to HGVparking.com. Truckers can search for parking areas nearby and switch between six different categories of parking areas. This app costs £2.29 on Apple and Android phones. With over 1000 locations listed, we think it fully justifies its very reasonable price tag

Camscanner

Not every app for a HGV/ lorry drivers needs to be focused on route planning and satellite navigation. CamScanner allows drivers to easily scan a wide range of documents and send them on straightaway, it’s useful for time sheets, receipts and much more. Best of all this versatile app is free and available for both Android and Apple devices.

Copilot

If you’ve ever found that you’ve been directed down a lane that’s too narrow for your vehicle or been surprised to find a low bridge on the way to your destination, then the CoPilot app could be for you. Unlike regular GPS navigation apps, CoPilot understands that you’re driving an HGV, which is why it’s such a popular app for HGV drivers. The routes used by the app will avoid truck-restricted or prohibited roads, automatically calculating the routes using your vehicle’s size, weight and width and load type. As well as this, the app shows live traffic on your route when connected to mobile data. You can also use the maps whilst offline, meaning you’ll always be on the correct route. Copilot is available on iPhone and Android devices.

Intruck

Intruck is one of the newest apps available and its popularity is rising fast. It offers everything an HGV driver could need, all in one app. You can use it to perform your legally required daily checks, find parking spaces and pay for them via SNAP, the national payment account for HGV drivers. The app shows live availability of HGV parking spaces as well as site facilities, images uploaded by other truckers and the option to pre-book. Intruck is available for free on both iPhone and Android.
